What is 4R Detox ?

Our body has its own self-detoxification mechanisms, so we don't need detoxification programs.

However... Environmental pollution and changes in food quality constantly challenge our detoxification mechanisms. We need to strengthen the body's purification equation - the "4R" approach.

In functional medicine, the "4R" approach refers to:

  1. Remove: This step involves removing or eliminating the factors that contribute to toxin accumulation and hinder detoxification. It includes identifying and reducing exposure to environmental toxins, such as air pollutants, chemicals, and heavy metals. In addition, it involves eliminating processed foods, refined sugars, artificial additives, and other unhealthy substances from the diet.
  2. Replace: The replace step focuses on replenishing the body with essential nutrients that support optimal detoxification. This includes ensuring an adequate intake of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients that are vital for supporting liver function and other detoxification processes. It may involve incorporating nutrient-dense whole foods, organic produce, and quality sources of proteins and fats into the diet.
  3. Reinoculate:  Reinoculating refers to restoring a healthy balance of gut bacteria, also known as the microbiome. The gut microbiome plays a crucial role in detoxification by metabolizing toxins, supporting immune function, and maintaining a healthy intestinal barrier. This step involves consuming probiotic-rich foods, such as fermented foods like yogurt, sauerkraut, or kimchi, or taking probiotic supplements to promote a diverse and balanced microbiome.
  4. Repair: The repair step focuses on supporting the repair and healing of the gut lining and other organs involved in detoxification, such as the liver. It may involve incorporating foods or supplements that support gut health, such as fibre, prebiotics, omega-3 fatty acids, and certain herbs like aloe vera or slippery elm. Additionally, reducing inflammation and supporting liver function through lifestyle changes, such as stress management and adequate sleep, can aid in the repair process.

The Vlala "4R" detox program is often implemented under the guidance of a healthcare professional or functional medicine practitioner. It is a holistic approach that aims to address the underlying factors contributing to toxin accumulation and support the body's natural detoxification processes for improved overall health and well-being.

What is Long COVID? Long COVID refers to new, recurring or ongoing health issues that can present after acute COVID-19 infection. While most will recover within 4 weeks, long COVID symptoms persist for a minimum of 4 weeks post-infection. Anyone infected can experience long COVID, though symptoms emerge later for some. There is no single test to determine if symptoms are long COVID-related. Healthcare professionals make a diagnosis based on medical history, including a previous confirmed or suspected COVID-19 infection.

Modern diets are abundant in calories but lacking in nutrients.
